Women Are...

Women are awesome. Women deserve equal rights as men. Women have unlimited potential and should not be put in a box that limits their capabilities. A world without women would be a world without organization, without compassion and more importantly- without people! As I have been a woman for the past 18 years, I have come to  discover which traits women have that set them apart from men, the way women perceive the world and the ways in which women make the world a better place. I, Annelin Stephens, believe that women are...

BEAUTIFUL.

I thought I had seen some beautiful women in my life...and then I came to BYU. All of the women here are absolutely gorgeous-inside and out. The thing that makes beauty so interesting is that all women are different. Different facial structures, body types, hair color, eyes, weight, you name it and every single woman is still beautiful. Beauty isn't conformity and everyone looking alike, beauty comes through individual weaknesses as well as strengths. All women should embrace themselves (as well as the women around them) because we are all beautiful in our own way.

DIVINE.
(0:19-3:20)

To be divine is to be "of, from or like God" (Google Dictionary). Women bless the Earth with their strengths, talents, creativity and compassion. Every woman has the divine capability to make the world a better place.

MAGICAL.
Women have the capacity to bring another human being into the world. Women will go
through nine months of nauseousness, soreness, overall discomfort and then go through labor,
all as an act of love. Straight up, I think that's magic. Women are wizards. I am so so grateful
for all of the mothers in the world who sacrifice so much time and effort for their children.

BRAVE.

In light of the terrible things that have happened in the past and are happening now, women are so so strong. The strength of women is something that I am always amazed by and inspired by. Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, Maya Angelou, all of these women had the courage to step outside of their comfort zone and in turn, ended up changing the world. Inside of each woman today is the same amount of bravery and courage that the famous women in history had.

AFRAID.

This is the introduction to an essay I wrote in high school.

I think women are afraid (and with good reason.) Women are afraid to go out alone at night
because of predators. Women are even afraid to go out to a bar with friends without covering
their drink so no one slips them the "date rape" drug. I have personally been taken advantage
of in a situation where I did not consent, nor was I able to. It still gives me chills of terror and
makes me sick when I replay it in my head. Especially since the latest election, I believe women are terrified. The President of the United States has bragged about sexually harassing women. The society we live in teaches girls how to prevent getting raped as opposed to
teaching men not to rape women and that's not something I'm okay with. That being said, I
think women are also...

INTELLIGENT

It used to be believed that women were inferior to men. Men had the right to vote and buy land
and women weren't allowed to. The idea that women weren't as intellectually capable diminished and
people realized that women are just as smart as men, or even more so... I know, I know. I'm
crazy for thinking that women are intelligent. But really, we are. Look at J.K. Rowling, not only
is she the brilliant author of Harry Potter, but she has continued to inspire people through her
words as she promotes equality for women on social media platforms. Many other women are
CEOs, political leaders, Presidential candidates, professors, and many other positions of high power.

HELPFUL

The example that comes to my mind when I think of "helpful women" is the Relief Society.
Relief Society is a group of women that have a desire to help others and I think that's the
purest motivation ever. Women are selfless. Women want to help "their fellow neighbor" and
women want to do all of this not for the sake of appearance, but because of the motivations of
their heart.

COMPASSIONATE

Women are so full of compassion and love. It's astounding. Anytime I am upset, I know I can count
on my girl friends and my mom to help me out because women are able to emphasize with
everything. I think that's partly because women have gone through so many different struggles and
trials and are able to use their past experiences to give wisdom to others

INDEPENDENT

Being independent is one of my favorite qualities of myself and other women around me. Women
don't have to have a man. I love the fact that women are capable and pro-active and women can be
on their own and be just fine. Women know what they want and so they work to achieve that and
women can rely on just themselves and turn out fine.

RATIONAL

I added rational because this is a quality that a large majority of men do not have. Men are
impulsive and spontaneous and sometimes don't think through their actions. Women, on the other
hand are very mature and level-headed and able to think through their actions and their words
more carefully to ensure that the best decision is made for that situation.

GENTLE

One of my earliest memories is of my mother rocking me in her arms and quietly singing church songs to me.
Women are gentle and nurturing, especially with children. It's a great quality to have and I believe that it is a
divinely appointed characteristic especially for women.

WHATEVER THEY WANT TO BE

In this project, I have listed several characteristics that I relate to most women but in reality, women can be
whatever and whoever they want to be. There are no limits. Women can be the exact opposite of every
characteristic I've listed and that's okay! Because that's their choice and their life. In short- women can be whoever
the hell we want to be because we control our own destiny.
