Digital Museum: The Life of A Women in Modern Times

In modern society, we are able to find out the sex of our children before birth. So, you're having a girl. Through traditional gender norms, we can see how this child may grow up.
First, it begins with the color pink. Girls love pink. Even babies who haven't been born yet.

Next, your baby will be dressed to the nines. After all, they are a girl! Starting at a young age, they will be labeled a heart breaker, flirty, and even a chick.

In grade school, your daughter will be surrounded by a group of primarily female friends. This is normal! Sometimes, they may be bothered by boys, like have their hair pulled. It's just because the boy likes her, of course. Everyone knows that!

When middle school and high school roll around, strict dress codes will start to be enforced in school. The long list of rules will sometimes make picking clothes feel impossible. Still, she will be asked to keep from distracting her male classmates.

When she begins attending university, she will be told affirmative action has given her an advantage, but she is also more likely to be assaulted on campus. Her chances of reporting anything are slim, though.

She will be told, by both misogynists and so-called-feminists alike, that her decisions are bad. She will be told that she shouldn't choose domestic life by some. Others will argue she belongs at home with the children. Her decisions will be scrutinized by nearly all who look at her.
So. What is a modern woman?

A modern woman can be a mother.

A modern woman can love who they want to.

Modern women can escape the reigns of oppression in violence. They can rise from violent situations and find strength.

Women can inspire entire nations.

Women are forces for change.

A modern woman breaks down barriers.

A modern woman can make her own decisions about who she wants to be. Whether that be activism, domestic life, a career, or all three. Modern women make their own decisions and deserve to have those choices respected. The more we allow women to shine without being scrutinized, the closer we are to a modern view of women matching the time we live in today.
