Attitudes about Women and my Life -Andrea Shay

Attitudes about Women and my Life

Within my life there are so many amazing people that I have the privilege of interacting with. I consistently see them degrading themselves based on the world's view points on womanhood and femininity. Within this project I want to point out the contrast between how the world's view points of people differs greatly from my view point of them.

Andrea Shay
The world tells her that she is small and feminine, and so she is weak. I want to tell her that she is one of the strongest people that I know.

Andrea Shay

The world tells her that she should not love her body because of her size. I want to tell her that I think she is beautiful.

Andrea Shay

The world tells him that he is not masculine because he enjoys ballet and musical theatre. I want to tell him that his masculinity is not defined by the way that our culture views his interests.

Andrea Shay

The world tells him that he should be ashamed of the feminine parts of his personality. I want to tell him that I love everything about him and never want him to change.

Andrea Shay
The world tells her that she should not go to the gym and lift weights because women should not be strong. I want to tell her that I admire both her physical strength and her strength of character.

Andrea Shay

The world tells her that she cannot be pretty and feminine because she is growing older. I want to tell her that I look up to her combination of grace and strength and hope to be like her when I am older.

Andrea Shay
The world tells her that she shouldn't have "nerdy" interests because those are things that boys like. I want to tell her that I think her hobbies make her the amazing well rounded person that I love.

Andrea Shay
The world tells her that her weight and age are what defines her beauty. I think she is beautiful because of the light that I feel when around her not because of worldly characteristics.

Andrea Shay
The world tells her that she needs to dress less modestly in order to be considered beautiful. I want to tell her that the things that if modestly is what empowers her, then she should feel free to do what makes her happy.

Andrea Shay
The world tells her that in order to be happy she needs to look a certain way so that she can attract a man and get married. I want to tell her that she is beautiful the way that she is.

Andrea Shay
The world tells her that she is a slut because she does not enjoy dressing modestly or wearing bras. I want to tell her that her value does not come from her clothing choices.

Andrea Shay
The world tells me that I am not good enough. I want to consistently make sure that I recognize my own self worth.
