Women Are Not Victims Anymore

 Women Are Not Victims Anymore

Women in fully developed countries are entitled to complete equality and human rights. There are laws that regulate discrimination against gender. We must be grateful to live in a free country where we can do what what we want. Because, sadly, there are still cultures around the world, where women are seen as lesser beings than men.

Today We Have the Same Rights that Men Do

For a long time, women have been unjustly held back from achieving full equality in many societies around the world, including ours. There is overwhelming evidence of women's oppression by men in European and North American cultures. Women did not have the same legal and political rights as men, and were under control of fathers and husbands in almost all societies. Women did not have basic rights, and could not own property or participate in the political system.
Today, we have the same human rights as men do. I am a representative of female population and I can vote, I own property and I could marry a woman if I chose to do so. There are women who hold presidential office like Kersti Kaljulaid, the fifth and current President of Estonia (picture on the left).

Female Athletes Get Equal Recognition and Popularity

              THROW LIKE A GIRL!!
Female Quarterback Throws Historic  Touchdown Pass in Debut Game (use a link below to watch it if your electronic device does not play it)
For so many years, American football have been an exclusively men's sport because "boys are strong and have better arms." However, judging from my experience, generally, boys and girls have almost the same level of ability to start with. Most boys do throw better but just because they practice more. 16-year-old Holly Neher showed what a girl can do if she has the same amount of practice as boys.

Ronda Rousey is a famous MMA athlete. She is a living proof against the idea of women's inherent physical inferiority. Many of my guy friends who are big fans of this world's fastest growing and most popular combat sport got their mind changed just by Ronda Rousey's ring performance.

I put this photo of Serena Williams because it shows that a woman's life has unlimited possibilities. We do not have to choose between our careers and our personal lives. We can have everything we want. Serena Williams can be one of the world's greatest athletes while being a caring and loving mother. She is one of the world's most influential people and also has a huge impact on her children's lives.

Wage Gap is a Myth, Not Reality
                                                                                                                                 6
There is no such thing as wage gap anymore. Men and women possessing same positions are getting paid the same amount. Data that radical feminists use to support their "wage gap" claim just shows that men choose harder and more time consuming jobs, some of them are lethally dangerous jobs, while most of women go with less effort and time consuming jobs so they can take care of their children. It is personal choice and there is nothing bad about it. My parents met in college. They both got the same education. They both got architecture-related jobs that paid the same amount. After my birth, my mother chose to stay home for 14 years. Of course, when she decided to come back, she got the same job that she had before I was born. My dad advanced and was getting paid more. However, not because he was a man but because he did not take 14-year-old break. He knew more relevant up-to-date information regarding the architectural market and had 20 years of experience verses my mom who did not know about new architectural advances and had only 6 years of experience. Work pay should depend on years of experience and your knowledge of the field.

Women in Their 20s and 30s Make More Than Men of Same Age
7
Data provided by the Office for National Statistics shows eye-opening trend where women in both their 20s and 30s are earning more than men on average. Again, I know many women who are better lawyers than men and get paid more. I have an African American female friend who earns more money as interior designer than her male colleagues. Her sister who is my age sells for Vivint and makes over $300,000 annualy.

Domestic Violence is No Longer Tolerated

8
In 1994, Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act. This Act, and the 1996 additions to the Act, recognize that domestic violence is a national crime and that federal laws can help an overburdened state and local criminal justice system. I am glad and grateful that American women are protected under this law. I am glad that our society sees men and women, wives and husbands as equal partners.

Ageism and Sexism in Show Business Has to Go

Jessica Lange, the powerhouse female lead of FX’s “American Horror Story:

Hollywood is run with this male point of view. Even if a woman runs a studio, she still does it with a male point of view. And as long as that exists, you’re still going to have this wish fulfillment...
That men continue to be fascinating and attractive and virile, and women age and are no longer sexual or beautiful — it’s a fantasy that has nothing to do with reality.” 10
Emma Thompson, known for her roles in Sense and Sensibility and Nanny McPhee:

I remember somebody saying to me that I was too old for Hugh Grant, who’s like a year younger than me. I said, ‘Do you want to go take a flying leap? 11

This topic is very important to me because I want to be an actress and I do not want to end my career just because I would turn certain age. I think Hollywood should stop making huge age gaps between their male leads and their love interests. It should not be ok for a 40-year-old man to have a relationships with a 23-year-old girl, while if a 40-year-old woman would to have a relationship with a younger guy, it would always be mentioned in a scrip that she is a cougar. Women's age should be celebrated as much as men's age.

We Must Focus on Helping Women in Trouble
12
In many cultures and societies across the world, women still don't have the same legal and political rights as men, and remain under control of their fathers and husbands. In some societies in which women had few options for supporting their life if not supported by a husband, there is even a practice of ritual widow suicide or murder. Women are also treated either like children or like property in many cultures and religions.  For example, the punishment for rape in some cultures is that the rapist's wife is given over to the rape victim's husband or father to rape as he wishes, as revenge.  Or a woman who is involved in adultery or other sex acts outside monogamous marriage is punished more severely than the man who is involved, and a woman's word about rape is not taken as
seriously as a man's word about being robbed would be. Women's status as somehow lesser than men is used to  justify men's power over women.
