Women in Our World (2)

Society often tells women what they should or shouldn't be, but I prefer to look at women as how they actually are...

Women From My Eyes
by Dailie Anderson

First Off,
I’d like to address the fact that most people don’t understand what feminism is It isn’t women burning their bras in the middle of a street- that’s just the extremists!I get upset when people view feminism this way because that is not at all what I mean when I say I am a feminist! Feminism is about equality for men and women…

Equality doesn’t mean “the same”.
I know that as a woman in America, and in the LDS church, I have different roles than men and that’s ok.
BUT
I expect to be treated fairly because…

I am freaking strong! An d So are all the women around Me. Every woman
Has a story of struggle And every woman has a Story of strength.

Strong women are all around us. Business, working, moms, doctors, lawyers, teachers- all over!
It isn’t shameful to be a woman in any field of work. It is wonderful to be successful in any way that brings you happiness.
Maya Angelou describes the wonders of being a woman perfectly in this poem.

Physical There are women who are physically strong. These women are able to seemingly defy the laws of physics as they train and break mental walls to better themselves and perform at the highest levels of competition. It bothers me when society says "you throw like a girl" or "man up" (even though I am guilty of saying these things as well). Everyone should throw like a girl! Everyone should woman up because women are tough.

Spiritual There are women who are spiritually strong and supportive, like Emma Smith. These women bring a sense of calm to a catastrophic world. Just because we, as feminists, want to be seen as equal, doesn't mean we have to give up our gentle nature, nor should we be discouraging men who want to be gentler.

Academically There are women who are academically strong. These women are the smarty pants of the world and have definitely endured a lot. Even when women weren’t “allowed” in the science and math fields, these women found a way to study and make the world a better place. Some of the most influential women in my life have pushed through the prejudices of women not being as smart as men. From Madame Curie to my high school statistics teacher, I've been influenced by countless brilliant female minds.

Nurture There are women who are strong in their desire to serve others. These women put their lives on the line in the military; are the first to volunteer after a crisis; and take care of everyone around them, regardless of the price to themselves. It may be the world's first stereotype for women to be there to serve men, and while that isn't 100% correct, women's primary goal should be to serve mankind

ArtIsctIcaLly  There are women who are artistically strong. These women think outside the box in everything they do and bring new meaning to life through art, writings, music, and dance.

Strong women are successful in every way, shape, and form. No societal standard can tell us we don’t measure up. No standard can tell us we aren’t as fit, smart, or artistic as we are supposed to be because we are all different! And that is exactly what makes us successful.
If we all stand tall and love who we are at every moment of every day, we can rest assured that we are holding true to what feminism really means. It isn’t fighting back, it isn’t shrinking away, it’s standing tall.
